I made my first solo car trip (following Pip in her car) out to Howick for lunch at the Ronberg's. The first thing I said when I stepped in the house was, "Wow! Al, you've grown up!". I equate Alan living with the furnishings of a boy's flat, but marriage has been good to him in every way. Al and Christine's house is charming and it was great to spend time looking at old photos, catching up, and eating a Kiwi lunch of tomato soup and cheese sandwiches.
Another thing I've noticed - bread and cheese are embraced here in NZ! You wouldn't believe how many loaves of bread are in the fridge at Pip's house (3 in the fridge, and at least that in the freezer!). I saw an advertisement earlier today that talked about how cheese can help relieve the symptoms of depression. I'm not depressed, but cheese on toast sounds yummy right about now.
In the photos - Al in his kitchen preparing a "hot drink" (coffee) and Al and Christine with me in the center holding seven-month-old Emily. -- Obviously I couldn't get the photos to load so I will edit the post and add them later.)
